Cristian Tello has revealed that Liverpool showed serious interest in signing him this summer but insists that he is happy at Barcelona.

After joining Barcelona in 2010 and moving into the senior side two years later, Tello often found himself on the bench under Pep Guardiola. He was handed more opportunities under Tito Vilanova and last season started 12 times, as well as featuring in another 10 and scoring seven goals.

The 22 year old says that for this reason he turned down the opportunity to discuss a move with Liverpool, preferring to stay at Barcelona and prove that he deserves a regular place in the first team.

"The coach has confidence in me, I am content there and ready to play a lot of minutes," he said, according to the Sunday Express.

"I feel better than in previous years. I knew that Liverpool were interested in me, but I never planned to leave."

Tello was one of multiple attacking targets that Brendan Rodgers failed to land in the lead up to deadline day, with the club also missing out on hilghy-rated midfielders Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Willian.

But Rodgers had clearly identified a host of players who would be suitable for Liverpool's continued rebuilding as the side look to break back into the top four, and with eight new players signed the Reds certainly look an invigorated side - currently sitting at the top of the table after three wins in a row.
