Leeds Manhunt for James Leslie Following Shooting of Policewoman

A manhunt is under way for a suspect who is accused of shooting a police officer in Leeds.

Officers are appealing for information to help find James Leslie in connection with an incident in which a policewoman was shot and injured in the early hours in Hyde Park.

Two uniformed officers attended a routine call of a disturbance and were confronted by a man at the address who fired upon them.

One female officer received serious but non-life threatening injuries in the shooting. A male officer was left unharmed following the incident.

Police are urging the public not to approach Leslie but to ring 999 if they see him.

Leslie, 37, is described as a white man, bald on top and last seen wearing a white coloured t-shirt as well as a black coloured waist length zip up hooded top. When last spotted he was on a bicycle heading towards Victoria Road away from Cardigan Road.

Asst chief constable Geoff Dodd said: "West Yorkshire Police are appealing to Mr Leslie to hand himself in as soon as possible.

"The Police are actively seeking Mr Leslie and the public should be reassured that every effort is being made to safely locate him. Additional patrols will be seen in the area."

Ned Liddemore, vice chairman of the West Yorkshire Police Federation, condemned the shooting as a "cowardly attack".

He added: "As has been shown in the early hours of this morning there is no such thing as a routine call when it comes to police officers.

"Yet again the dangers faced by our colleagues, 24 hours a day 365 days a year, has been made abundantly clear

"When the public of West Yorkshire are sound asleep in their beds, our officers are still out there doing their job.

"We will be supporting the officers and their families through this traumatic time."
