After the big build up it's finally happening, the first event of the 2012 Olympic Games starts today at 4pm over at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, where the Great Britain women's football team take on New Zealand. But the question remains will they be able to fill a stadium of this size?

In the first bit of controversy surrounding the Games it has just been announced that Greece has disqualified one of its Olympic athletes Triple Jumper Voula Papachristou over social media comments she posted on her Twitter page which were seen as racist. Her comments mocked African immigrants and expressed support for a far-right party. She immediately apologised and said she wasn't racist, but it was seen as, too little too late.

And it seems you can't please everyone as London Olympics organisers have denied that the temperature of the swimming pool is too high after complaints from the US team.
