The pick of today's Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga football transfer rumours, news and gossip for 22 August, 2011. All the latest transfer rumours surrounding Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Roma, Barcelona and Real Madrid will be covered here.

In London, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is weighing up bids of £15m and £20m respectively for Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila and Lille's Eden Hazard, or so says the Daily Mirror. The Gunners boss could also return with a fresh £18m bid for Everton defender Phil Jagielka after Saturday's defensive horror show against Liverpool.

The Frenchman is also poised to step up his interest in Werder Bremen's Per Mertesacker by offering goal-shy forward Nicklas Bendtner in return. In the age-old tradition of picking a player at random and assigning an equally spurious destination/interested party, Wenger is also set to sign Lazio striker Mauro Zarate, Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta and Marseille's Lucho Gonzalez, according to various reports all of which are likely to be utter bunkum but has that ever stopped anyone? Answer: no.

Across town, Tottenham could renew their non-interest in Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan, but only if they can shift ambling bean-pole Peter Crouch to Stoke. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is also interested in Newcastle's Joey Barton, apparently.

Another midfielder on the move could be Liverpool's Alberto Aquilani who has claimed he is close to joining AC Milan. Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is also considering a sly punt on Wolves striker Kevin Doyle and Wigan forward Hugo Rodallega. Dalglish is also tempted by a potential swap deal involving midfielder Raul Meireles and Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge. Believe what you will, I guess.

Should Meireles join Chelsea he is likely to be playing alongside Valencia winger Juan Mata, who is set to finalise his £26m move to Stamford Bridge in the next 24 hours.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson could make a "shock" move for Japanese international Shinji Kagawa who currently plays in Germany for Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, Ferguson will make one last attempt to sign Wesley Sneijder this week, after the Inter player withdrew from training for "personal reasons", unless of course he doesn't because he has said over and over again that he has absolutely "no interest" in the Dutch international.

La Liga

Could Real Madrid outcast Kaka join Arsenal? Probably not, but that hasn't stopped numerous "news sources" reporting the deal. One player definitely leaving Spain, however, is Valencia's Juan Mata who will join Chelsea this week. "Valencia has reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea FC for the transfer of the player Juan Manuel Mata," a statement from Valencia read.

Serie A

In Milan, Samuel Eto'o proposed move to Anzhi Makhachkala should be finalised in the next 48 hours. His agent is quoted on ESPN Soccer as saying: "Should everything go well with medicals then the official announcement will be on Monday or Tuesday."
