Video uploaded to a social media website on Tuesday (October 15) appeared to show air strikes on the Damascus suburb of Daraya, on the first day of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha.

Several of the videos showed explosions and thick smoke rising from buildings; narration from those filming gave the date as October 15.

In one of the videos thick smoke covers the streets as the cameraman calls for people to come and help those caught under the rubble. Later a man covered in blood leaves a building.

Eid al-Adha commemorates the biblical prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son to God, and is the second most important festival in the Muslim calendar. The holiday is normally a time for families to celebrate together, but unrest in the region has seen many forgo its usual rituals.

Daraya has been a key battleground in Syria's two and a half year civil war in which more than 100,000 people have been killed.
