Manchester United have been handed a massive boost as summer signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw have returned to training.

The 25-year-old started the season against the Red Devils' 2-1 defeat to Swansea City at Old Trafford. He was substituted in the second half and was ruled out for the next three fixtures against Sunderland, MK Dons and Burnley.

Herrera picked up an ankle injury last month and his absence saw United struggle in the three matches played in all competitions after the Swansea defeat. The Spaniard's return would be a welcome boost to Louis van Gaal as he prepares his side for the next league game.

"Training hard and looking forward to this next game at Old Trafford!" the midfielder tweeted.

Meanwhile, another summer signing Luke Shaw could also be in contention to make his full debut for United in the next league tie. The England international joined the Old Trafford club from Southampton and was ruled out of action for the past one month due to a hamstring injury.

The Telegraph reports the left-back has returned to full training and could make his first competitive appearance for his new club later this weekend. The Premier League returns after two weeks of international break and prior to that, Van Gaal was without 11 first team players.

The 20-times English champions host Queens Park Rangers for the league tie on 14 September. United are without a win in all competitions so far as they have lost two out of the four matches played so far.

Apart from the opening day defeat at the hands of the Welsh club, United suffered another shock 4-0 defeat against MK Dons in the second round of the Capital One Cup. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager would be hoping for a win against Harry Redknapp's side.

Apart from Shaw, the fixture against QPR could also see summer signings Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao make their debut in the Premier League.
