Overview

Murray is playing his third ATP Masters tournament this year after opting not to participate in the 2014 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters last month. The British No 1 is eyeing his first Masters title this year and begins his campaign in the second round against Almagro.

The 26-year-old Scot has previously won this tournament in 2008 when it was played indoors on a hard surface. He will be keen to become the third player after Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to win the title more than once.

The world no 24 progressed into the second round after beating Andrey Golubev on Tuesday. Almagro won the first set, 6-3, but the 26-year-old Kazakh shocked the Spaniard in the second set, 7-6 (9), thus forcing a decider.

However, the 28-year-old managed to clinch the third set, 7-6 (4), in the tiebreaker in a match that lasted over two hours and 30 minutes.

The winner of this match will face the winner between 13<sup>th ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and 46<sup>th ranked Santiago Giraldo on Thursday.

Murray holds a 3-1 lead against Almagro in overall meetings. The pair clashed once in Grand Slam events where the Spaniard emerged triumphant in four sets.
