Overview

World number two Murray continues his defence of the Madrid Open when he takes on Simon in the round of 16 following his three set win over Radek Stepanek in the previous round. The Scot has had a difficult season thus far and has made just one final, which was at the Australian Open. He has since struggled to reach the summit clash and failed to make it past the round of 32 at Indian Wells and Miami. Murray's clay court season has started well with a semi-final appearance at the Monte Carlo Masters. With the French Open coming up, he will be keen to have a good run in the tournament.

Simon, meanwhile, comes into the game following a three set victory over Pablo Carreno Busta, the same opponent he lost to in his previous tournament in Estoril. The world number 18 has a poor record against Murray and has failed to beat him in their three encounters on the clay at Madrid.
