The Premier League has launched the "20 Seasons App" as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations.

The app is available to download for the iPhone, the iPad and the iPod Touch from the App Store and provides football fans an innovative way of watching some of the best moments in the history of the league.

Included in the app, which costs £1.99, are one hundred "classic moments" and each of the clips is accompanied by a quiz question through an interactive "Q" button, with chances to win prizes.

Each of the clips lasts for about a minute and includes some of the most defining moments of the last 20 years in the English top division, ranging from Brian Deane scoring the Premier League's first-ever goal for Sheffield United against Manchester United in August 1992 to Wayne Rooney's overhead kick for United against Manchester City last season.

The clips include:

  • David Beckham's goal from the halfway line for Man Utd against Wimbledon in the 1996/97 season.
  • Alan Shearer being recognised as the Premier League's Player of the Decade in 2002.
  • Arsenal's team of "Invincibles" during the 2003/04 season.
  • Xabi Alonso's long-range goal for Liverpool against Newcastle United in the 2006/07 season.

There are at least five clips from every season and 44 of the 45 clubs to play in the Premier League are featured in the app, with Swansea City being the only club to miss out as they are currently playing their first season in the top flight. However, at least one Swansea highlight from this season will be added to the app in the July update.

All 100 iconic moments can be viewed by scrolling through the videos from the home screen or by browsing clips by Player, Manager or Season using the built-in search categories. There are also options of streaming and downloading the clips and building a Favourites list to store your picks. Five clips from the 2011/12 season will be added to the app in July.

The app launch will be followed by the Premier League's 20 Seasons Awards, the shortlist of which will be announced in mid-April with an awards ceremony at the end of the season in May.
