Arsenal are reportedly pondering a move for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani in the summer after the Italian youth international's impressive showing in the Serie A.

According to talkSPORT, the Italian defender, who is currently spending the season on loan at Empoli has impressed Arsene Wenger with his performances and this has prompted the Gunners to test the Italian champion's resolve with a £11m bid at the end of the current campaign.

Rugani is a central defender and his performances this season for the newly promoted Empoli have seen the side climb up to 15th place in the Serie A table as they look to remain in the top flight for more than just one season.

The Italian U21 international was a key player for Empoli when they got promoted to Serie A ahead of this season and Rugani was also named the best player in Serie B in the previous campaign.

Juventus are reluctant to let the defender go and will try to convince him that his future lies in Turin despite interest from Premier League clubs.

Arsenal will have a battle on their hands if Juventus decide to sell, as Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea have also shown interest in signing the defender in the past.

However, the Serie A champions will hold all the cards when it comes to deciding the player's future as Rugani is contracted to Juventus until the summer of 2019.

Wenger is always on the market for top young players and with defence being the focus for the upcoming transfer window, he could be tempted to make a move for the Italian defender, who has been compared to Fabio Cannavaro and Alessandro Nesta.
