It was night of mixed results for British sides in the Champions League. Manchester United came from 2-0 down in the first 20 minutes to beat Braga 3-2. Chelsea succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, whilst Celtic were left heartbroken after they conceded a late goal to lose 2-1 to Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Tonight sees Arsenal play Shalke, whilst Manchester City travel to Amsterdam to take on Ajax.

Arsenal suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Norwich at the weekend, and manager Arsene Wenger was hoping for a positive response from his players.

"Yes I expect us to respond in a strong way because this team is very ambitious, wants to do very well and the players were very very disappointed that we lost the game at Norwich, we have to put that behind us and I'm sure we will show a strong response tomorrow."

City play Ajax knowing that they desperately need a win to kick-start their European campaign. With only one point from their first two games, boss Roberto Mancini admitted he wasn't sure who he would pick up front to hopefully fire the side to victory.

"For me it's always difficult because when you have four strikers like Mario, Edin, Carlos or Sergio and I should choose only two to play and the other two on the bench, it's very difficult. But Dzeko was fantastic on Saturday against West Bromwich and every time, also when he play from the start, he plays well and for tomorrow we decide tomorrow morning."

The other matches in Europe tonight see Malaga face AC Milan, whilst Borussia Dortmund play Real Madrid.
