The Premier League's top clubs - Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea - are all on alert, according to a report in The Sun, following the possible availability of La Liga club Athletic Bilbao's star winger, Markel Susaeta.

The 24-year-old Basque player has only one year left on his contract and could be available for as little as £6m, despite his club rating him at more than double that amount.

Susaeta caught the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson after scheming the English champion's exit, over two legs, from the Europa League earlier this season.

However, the English clubs in question may not have it all their way.

Rumours suggest Bilbao's fellow Spanish club Real Madrid are also in the hunt, as are French Ligue 1 side Paris St Germain, led by Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Real Madrid's Argentine winger Angel di Maria is reportedly being targetted by Chelsea and a £35m bid is being talked about. If the deal does go through, expect Santiago Bernabeu officials to turn their attention to Susaeta and use Xabi Alonso, another Basque player in their ranks, as bait to lure the young winger.

Meanwhile, Bilbao have recorded a very comfortable 4-2 win over German Bundesliga side Schalke in the Europa League, in their continuing quest for European glory.
