Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak has put a halt to speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal during the transfer window, confirming he is staying with the La Liga outfit this season. The Poland international's statement comes just days after Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema laughed off claims linking him with a move from the Santiago Bernabeu to the Emirates Stadium.

Krychowiak joined Sevilla 12 months ago when they paid just £2.9m ($4.5m) to Stade de Reims for his services. The 25-year-old midfielder developed rapidly into one of the most important players for the Europa League winners, and has been linked with a variety of big clubs in recent months.

In June The Times said Arsene Wenger was considering Krychowiak as an alternative to Morgan Schneiderlin, who opted to join Manchester United instead of Arsenal upon his Southampton exit. Sevilla warned potential suitors at the time they were not looking to negotiate, and any team who wanted the Pole would need to pay his full £21.9m release clause.

Krychowiak was enigmatic at the time when quizzed about a potential move to the Premier League.

"England? I do not know, in football you can't talk about the future. But please do not misunderstand me because I do not want this to be disrespectful to the club or the fans, who I respect a lot. Many players are kissing the badge of the club on Monday and the following day they sign a contract with another club; others, however, claim that they are going to stay in a club for year and eventually become into a legend of the club 10 years later," he said during an interview with Estadio Deportivo.

The presence of Arsenal scouts during Sevilla's Uefa Super Cup defeat to Barcelona earlier this month reopened rumours, although Wenger ruled out any interest in the player. Krychowiak's teammate Vicente Iborra, however, admitted he was worried about the prospect of the midfielder leaving the club.

"Of course I am concerned that Krychowiak could be taken away," Iborra told Estadio Deportivo. "I always want to have the best players in the team. He brings so much. I hope he stays. I understand Sevilla's position, it is clear, and I hope nobody pays that clause, and he stays with us."

Following Benzema ruling out amove to Arsenal, Krychowiak did the same with a clear message in his Twitter account.

"I am staying at [Sevilla stadium] Sanchez Pizjuan this season," he wrote.
