Gonzalo Higuain is set for a medical at Arsenal on Friday, according to reports, with the striker getting ready for a €27m move to the north London club this summer.

Spanish paper Marca is reporting that the Gunners have finally agreed on a deal for the Real Madrid star, who scored 18 goals across the board last season and has long been on Arsene Wenger's radar.

The Sun claims that the 25-year-old is set to undergo a medical at the club on Friday, all but sealing his move to Arsenal in what will be a record-breaking transfer for Wenger.

The need to build on Arsenal's attacking line-up has been well documented; despite Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud all having fairly successful seasons, Wenger will be well aware that the likes of the Manchester clubs and Chelsea have more depth in their striking ranks, greatly helping their campaign for a top four finish and push for trophies.

While Wenger has often chosen to go for young players full of potential and without a big fee attached, the manager has reportedly been given a transfer kitty worth around £70m, and is getting ready to spend big for the first time in many years as he looks to end the side's trophyless run.

Stevan Jovetic was another striker target who the club were believed to be considering, but Higuain has emerged as the addition they hoped most for, particularly after he admitted he would relish a switch to the Gunners.

Higuain's father revealed yesterday that talks were advanced with Arsenal over a move, telling Fox Sport Latin America: "We managed to get permission from Real Madrid to negotiate face to face with Arsenal. Fortunately, I will soon be able to watch my son play in the Premier League."

And now it seems that the deal for the star is all but done, which will be a huge boost to the squad as they look to celebrate more than a top four finish next season.
