Arsenal are reportedly preparing a £32m bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho in the ongoing January transfer window after the midfielder admitted he was interested in moving to England.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen the defensive side of his team and is a big admirer of the Portuguese midfielder. The French manager wants to bring in the versatile player, who can operate as a defensive midfielder or as a centre-back.

The Gunners have been trailing the midfielder since the summer transfer window, but failed with a late bid on transfer deadline day to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

Apart from the north London club, Premier League rivals Manchester United have also been linked with the midfielder as Louis van Gaal is also interested in signing him this month.

Recent reports did suggest that Arsenal are leading the race to sign the midfielder and could complete the deal within a fortnight. Wenger has indicated that he is in the market to strengthen his team and has admitted that he wants to sign a defender following the Gunners' 3-0 win over Stoke City.

Moreover, the Portuguese international midfielder has reveled his admiration for the Premier League and has stated that his dream is to play in England. He is aware of the interest from the clubs, but has left it to his agent to handle the details.

"My dream is to play in England. I know some clubs are interested but my agent Jorge is looking after it and I am relaxed," Carvalho said, as quoted by the Mirror.

"Now my mission is to work in Sporting and they will be in charge of any transfer and my future. That is very important," the Sporting midfielder added.
