The Gunners have may have lost their first game of the season but they have looked impressive at the back this season with German international Per Mertesacker particularly catching the eye.

However, Wenger is keen to add to his options as it appears likely that Sebastien Squillaci and Johan Djourou are both looking to depart the club in order to find regular first team football.

Arsenal are not the only side believed to be interested in signing Dragovic with the likes of Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Stuttgart, Marseille, Roma and Werder Bremen are linked with the defender.

The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising defenders to emerge from Austrian football and has particularly earned credit for his performances since signing for FC Basel.

The Metro has reported that Norwich missed out on signing the defender during the summer but Dragovic could well have the chance to join the Premier League if Arsenal continue their interest.

Arsenal scouted the defender in Basel's 4-1 win over FC Bion last week and it is believed that they will continue to check on the composed centre-back before the January transfer window.

The report states that Basel would demand as much as £5million for a defender who started his career at Austria Vienna before moving to Basel in February last year.

Dragovic has already won two league titles and has been capped some 14 times by Austria, making his debut when he was just 18-years-old.
