Arsene Wenger is faced with a dilemma as the January transfer window approaches, despite the Arsenal squad currently boasting top form and working their way into contention for a Champions League place once more.

While Robin van Persie is on fire, scoring 18 goals so far this season, if the prolific striker should become injured, the manager won't have much support to turn to as the Gunners aim to break their six and a half season long trophyless spell.

Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho will both be heading to the Africa Cup of Nations, and Arsenal will need to be particularly careful of van Persie's fitness, with the Dutchman set to become particularly important as the season enters the business end.

Strikers have been linked with Arsenal on many occasions over the last few summers, and with the next window just over three weeks from opening, the side will be looking for an experienced hitman who can deliver immediately and provide much needed depth in the squad.
