Police in Haiti have dismissed singer and songwriter Wyclef Jean's claims that he was shot at citing doctors as confirming that the musician only sustained a minor cut from glass.
Jean claimed to have been shot by an unknown assailant on the eve of presidential elections. The hip-hop star, who long considered running for president in his homeland, said the gunman blasted his hand just after 11 p.m. in the city of Delmas, near the capital Port-au-Prince.
According to the musician, a bullet grazed his right hand when he stepped out of a car to make a phone call.
"I heard blow, blow, blow and I just looked at my hand," he is quoted as saying.
However, the police dismissed Jean's claims.

"We met with the doctor who saw him and he confirmed Wyclef was cut by glass," Vanel Lacroix, police chief in Petionville, told the Daily Mail.
Jean also said doesn't know who fired the 'shots', or whether they were directed at him.
After a massive earthquake shattered the Caribbean Nation in 2010, Jean reached out to his homeland in relief efforts. In August 2010, reports emerged of Jean revealing his plans to run for President. The campaign was put to an early end after it was found that Jean is not eligible to run for president of the country because he is not legally a resident there.
Jean was in native Haiti to support presidential candidate and fellow musician Michel Martelly when the latest and alleged incident of violence reportedly took place.
