Consumer price inflation seen at 4.1% in July
Posted 12 August 2008 @ 09:28 am GMT
That would be the highest since May 1992 when it was 5.3 percent and may raise concerns that higher living costs could feed through to wage demands - a key worry for policymakers who are eager to stop inflation from becoming entrenched.
Major energy suppliers British Gas and Edf both raised gas prices to households by more than 20 percent last month.
"Inflation will pick up in coming months, but looking further out it's the growth outlook that will come more into focus at the BoE," said Nick Bate at Merrill Lynch, who saw CPI inflation at 4.0 percent in July.
