The fact that the Air France investigation team did not rule out the role of terrorism fuelled speculations that the two "terrorist suspects" abroad the flight could have had a part in the flight 447crash.
However, posthumous investigation by the French Intelligence into the alleged two suspects cleared the two of any terrorist activity. They shared the same name as that of known Islamic radicals.
The French Interior Ministry said: "We launched an urgent enquiry into the men's backgrounds as soon as they were pinpointed as having possible terrorist links.
"This deep and wide-ranging investigation has allowed us to clear them.".
The men were of North African or Middle Eastern origin in their early 20s and were allowed to board the aircraft unhindered.

Despite the two suspects being cleared of any involvement with terrorism, the French defence minister Herve Morin has not ruled out the role of terrorism in the crash of flight 447.
France has a huge population of North Africans many of whom are Muslims with few having links to Islamic radicalism.
Numerous threats have been made by Islamic terrorist against France especially since France is an active member of the NATO in Afghanistan.
The Air France flight 447 went down in the Atlantic Ocean on the way from Rio de Janeiro to Paris during a violent thunderstorm. All 228 passengers and crew onboard the flight are assumed to have died. A total of 41 bodies have been recovered so far from the Ocean.
