However, the search for the black boxes will continue extending well over the expected 30 day duration when the black box will stop emitting locator signals. The black box recovery search is coordinated by the French authorities.

"We'll have a better idea July 1 on how much longer we'll go," AP quoted the U.S. Air Force Col. Willie Berges, who is commander of the American military forces supporting the search for the black box.

U.S. has supplied a powerful under water listening device which is being trolled along the Atlantic Ocean by two French tug boats. The device can pick up signals up to 20,000 feet.

Honeywell, the maker of the black boxes that were used in the Air France flight 447, expressed their optimism that the black boxes can be located. In an interview with CNN, a representative of Honeywell said the company has 100 percent recovery record of the flight recorders.

The Air France flight 447 was on its way to Paris from Rio de Janeiro on 1 June when it disappeared off the radar few hundred miles from the north-eastern cost of Brazil. The flight faced turbulent weather and thunderstorms before vanishing from the radar and crashing into the Ocean killing all 228 passengers and crew.
