02 July 2009 @ 08:54 am BST

LONDON - Asia-focussed bank Standard Chartered <2888.HK> named John Peace as its permanent chairman, the bank said on Thursday, prompting him to step down as chairman of financial data company Experian .

Peace, 60, has been acting chairman at Standard Chartered since January, when Mervyn King stepped down at short notice to become a Treasury minister.

He will quit as chairman of Experian once a new chairman is appointed, and remain chairman of Burberry Group .
