Banks, Barclays, HSBC and Lloyds rise pushes FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 lost most of the gains made during the day as it closed at 4,236.28.

Following the loss (of 2.5 percent) yesterday mainly due to the grim U.S data on job losses the FTSE 100 began to gain during the midday and reaching 4264.47 at around 13:40. By the close of the day, the FTSE 100 index came down to 4,236.28, a mere 2.01 points (0.05 percent) improvement from yesterday's closing value.

The major banks, Barclays, HSBC, RBS and Lloyds put in an improved performance.

The Barclays share price, opening at 291.85, showed a steady increase and closed at 297 and improvement of 2.77 percent from yesterdays closing value.

HSBC also made a steady gain during the day finishing at 509, an increase of 8.70.

Lloyds continue the steady performance by the banks as it gained 1.6 percent from previous days close and ending the day at 67.50.
