Michael Jackson is to be buried in a gold plated coffin costing $25,000. The coffin, known as a Promethean has a blue velvet interior and a hand polished, mirror finish, reports TMZ.com.
Michael Jackson is first believed to have seen the design in 2006 when he paid tribute to singer James Brown, whose body was on display in the coffin at the Apollo Theatre in New York.
The public memorial service for Michael Jackson will be held next Tuesday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Around 20,000 people can be accommodated in the center but many more are expected to come.
It is believed that large screens will be erected outside the center for fans who are unable to get into the center.
