A "prequel" to hit comedy series Only Fools and Horses is to be shown next year and is expected to shed some light on the early life of Derek "Del Boy" Trotter, one of the nation's best loved comedy characters.
The 90-minute one-off show Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Chips is to be set in 1960 and will show the lives of a teenage Del Boy and other characters from Only Fools and Horses such as Trigger, Boycie and Denzel.
The show will also reveal more of the lives of the parents of Del Boy and his younger brother Rodney.
The programme will begin filming this August and will be shown next year and has been written by John Sullivan who also wrote Only Fools and Horses.
Sullivan said that programme would show, "why Del and Rodney turned out they way they did", reports the BBC.
He added that it was "set in the real 60s, before The Beatles and Mary Quant made London the coolest place on the planet".
"The drama will feature South London at its least glamorous, where money was scarce, the staple diet was rock salmon and chips, and the flicks offer the only hint of glamour."
The story of the programme is to involve the release of safe breaker Freddie Rodbal.
Mark Freeland, the head of BBC Comedy, said of the new series, "Nearly 30 years since Only Fools And Horses hit our screens, now we'll have the chance to see the vivid, bittersweet drama that underpinned the iconic series."
No information of the casting is yet available.
