The UK government has been urged by the Communication Workers Union general secretary Billy Hayes to intervene in the bitter dispute between the postal workers and Royal Mail.
The union is carrying out a week long industrial action which began yesterday and will end next Monday August 24.
Hayes urged the government to step in and urge Royal Mail managers to enter into talks with the union to break the deadlock. The bitter dispute between the union and the Royal Mail has already witnessed a series of strikes around the country. The union is set to issue a national strike ballot in September.
The CWU has accused Royal Mail of breaking an agreement reached two years ago that ended the last national postal strike. Royal Mail on the other hand accuses the CWU of preventing modernisation.
