Diners put off by service charges

28 October 2009 @ 10:41 am BST

A new survey by Livebookings finds that 47% of British consumers are put off returning to eat at a restaurant or pub if the service charge is automatically added to the bill.

The survey also showed that 22% are put off by being charged for bread they didn't ask for.

31% are annoyed by only being able to book at limited times, such as at 7pm or 9pm.

10% of diners are now visiting less expensive restaurants with 56% favouring special discounted offers.
