According to the Universum, Google has topped the lists of both Global Top 50 Business Companies to Work For as well as Global Top 50 Engineering Companies to Work For.

In the first list, Google is followed by global audit firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (2nd), Microsoft (3rd), Goldman Sachs (4th), Ernst & Young (5th), Procter & Gamble (6th), J P Morgan (7th), KPMG (8th), McKinsey & Company (9th) and Deloitte (10th).

In the second list, Google is followed by Microsoft (2nd), IBM (3rd), BMW (4th), Intel (5th), General Electric (6th), Sony (7th), Siemens (8th), Shell (9th) and Procter & Gamble (10th).

While Coca-Cola, Citigroup, Oracle, BP and Philip Morris feature among the top 50 global employers for business students, GlaxoSmithKline and Alcatel-Lucent feature among the top 50 global employers for engineering students.

And, there are some like Google, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, BMW, Sony, McKinsey & Company, Johnson & Johnson and General Electric which even feature in the top 20 of both the lists reinforcing the belief that strong employer brands can and do transcend many skill and industry groups.

"The employers that feature in this Top 50 all have one thing in common: they successfully appeal to current and future talent, and they are aware of how scarce talent is," Universum said.

According to Michal Kalinowski, CEO, Universum, Google's supremacy is not surprising as they have "employer branding as part of their business strategy."

"Many associate their corporate brands to people. This is normal for the service industry, but it's a new approach for other companies," Kalinowski said.

According to Kalinowski, companies like Google, Microsoft and IBM are preferred employers globally as "they are focused, consistent and differentiate themselves in their communication" besides offering job security in an international environment.
