Marvel Comics has partnered with Comixology, iVerse and Panelfly to develop iPhone apps that will allow iPhone users to download and read Marvel comics on their smartphones.

Marvel, which has launched superheroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, X-Men and Fantastic Four, will initially allow downloads of some older issues before adding the more-recent titles to the download list.

According to Stephen Lynch, CTO of Panelfy, the move was to give Marvel fans an opportunity to get their hands on the original versions of some of these comics, which have now become collector's items and are very difficult to find.

The price of downloading each title is $1.99 (though Panelfly is offering an introductory price of 99¢) and if you're wondering whether iPhone users in the UK can avail of the service, the answer, unfortunately, is "no," at least, not for now.
