Sue Johnston, the actress best known for her roles in Brookside and The Royle Family, has been awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
Johnston, 65, played Sheila Grant in the Channel 4 soap Brookside and later played Barbara Royle in the BBC comedy The Royale Family.
Johnston was given the award as part of the Queen’s birthday honours list for services to drama and charity.
Born in Warrington, Cheshire, the actress said that she was “delighted” and “honoured” to receive the award, when it was announced in June.
Other names to be honoured include actor Christopher Lee, who will receive a knighthood, chef Delia Smith who receives a CBE and golfer Nick Faldo who will also receive a knighthood.
