Fuel cell company Ceres Power has signed an agreement with Bord Gis ireann for residential heat and power products operating on natural gas for the Irish market.
BGE will pay Ceres 1.6m in milestone payments during the development and trialling phase, including an up-front payment of 1m.
Ceres says the deal is its first international contract outside mainland UK and forms part of its expansion plans into Europe.
It builds on the company's natural gas CHP programme with British Gas and will use the same core technology platform. Ceres and BGE aim to establish CHP as the low-carbon residential energy system of choice for Ireland.
