EasyJet has been given two awards at the 2009 British Travel Awards for being the best no frills and economy class airline. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic also picked up awards.
Over 90,000 people voted for their favourite airlines and travel companies in what are considered to be the “Oscars” of the travel industry.
EasyJet won “Gold” in the No Frills/Charter and Economy Class categories. Virgin Atlantic was awarded “Silver” in the Economy Class category while Thomson Airways received Silver in the No Frills/Charter category.
British Airways was given the award for being the best Scheduled Airline, ahead of Monarch, whilst Virgin Atlantic got the Gold for best Long Haul Scheduled Airline, with British Airways getting the Silver.
Singapore Airport was voted as the best overseas airport ahead of Dubai.
Paul Simmons, regional general manager of easyJet UK, said, “To be voted the best Low Fares Airline for yet another year is a welcome reinforcement of how the public see easyJet. But even more special this year was the additional recognition of being voted as providing the Best Economy Class. In this category we were voted ahead of the usual suspects - the so called Legacy Airlines. And it shows just how main stream we now are. It must be worrying times for the high cost dinosaurs.”
