London - South Korean electronics giant LG has launched a touchscreen-based mobile phone that will retail for below £100 in the UK market.

The PAYG (pay-as-you-go) LG POP GD510 features a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display with 240x400 pixel resolution, a 3-megapixel camera, a multimedia player, Bluetooth 2.1, FM radio, music/video player, web browser, MicroSD card slot (the GD510 ships with 8GB MicroSD card), a 3.5mm headphone jack and a battery with enough juice to power the phone up to 360 hrs (standby time) and 3.6 hrs (talk time).
LG is also offering an optional solar panel that can be fitted on the back of the phone in place of the battery cover. The back-plate reportedly gives 2.15 min of talk time for every 10 min of sunlight it receives.
The GD510, which measures just 97.8 x 49.5 x 11.2 mm and weighs a mere 87gm, does not, however, come with 3G, WiFi, accelerometer or camera flash.
The phone, which retails for £99.95, is a great buy as it uses the high-end S-Class user interface seen on other more expensive touchscreen models in the LG portfolio.
With the GD510, you also have easy shortcut access to your favourite social networking sites, as well as supports for widgets.
The quad-band GSM/EDGE-based phone is available at O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse. So, if you're looking for a cheap phone that boasts of features of an entry-level smartphone, you know what to buy.
