London Stock Exchange says 19.7m equity trades were carried out across its electronic order books during October, up 8% on the previous month.
Total equity value traded was 173.4bn. The average daily value traded on the UK order book was 4.2bn, 7% higher than the previous month but a fall of 44% year on year.
Significant volatility which led to record volumes in equity markets last year affected year-on-year comparisons. However trading in ETFs, ETCs, fixed income and derivatives products showed strong growth in October.
ETF and ETC trading set new records, with average daily trades up 84% on last year.
The average daily value traded on the MTS cash markets increased 76%, while EDX London also performed strongly, seeing its second busiest month ever for number of contracts traded.
