FTSE tipped to open modestly higher, with miners in focus

PRE-OPEN REPORT: Headline shares are tipped to open sixteen to twenty-one points higher today, according to financial websites, with Anglo-Swiss miner Xstrata in focus as it kicks off a busy week of reporting amongst the mining heavyweights.

ASIAN MARKETS

In Asia today, the Nikkei was down 93.79 points at 9,963.3, while the Hang Seng ended the morning off 41.11 points at 19,623.97.

Crude oil traded at $71.67 a barrel on Nymex.

Gold settled at $1,067 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

In a thin corporate diary today, interims results are due from Kofax and final results from Amino Technologies, BATM Advanced, St. Modwen Properties and Xstrata.

Collins Stewart hosts its AGM.
