GM seeks state aid for Opel - Germany

BERLIN - General Motors has made an application to Germany for state aid under which the federal and regional governments would provide 1.5 billion euros (1.3 billion pounds) in guarantees, Economy Minister Rainer Bruederle said on Tuesday.

Bruederle added that GM was also seeking a further 1.2 billion euros in aid from Britain, Spain, Poland and Austria.

Opel Chief Executive Nick Reilly earlier on Tuesday unveiled details of the carmaker's eagerly awaited restructuring plan.
