Npower has said it will be cutting gas prices by as much as seven per cent on standard bills, following similar decisions by a number of its competitors.
From 26 March two million residential gas customers will have their bills reduced by an average of £50 each.
Npower also said that it would be changing its discount scheme to allow customers a discount of 4.8 per cent on their electricity bill after 12 months, representing savings of around £40.
The news comes after similar cuts in energy bills announced by British Gas, E.ON and Scottish & Southern Energy.
Kevin Miles, CEO of npower retail said, “We always aim to offer competitive prices to our customers and we have lowered our gas prices although our profits halved in 2009. The combined profit from supplying nearly 6.8 million accounts and operating 9 power stations was equivalent to just 9p a day for each customer account.”
