BSkyB up on talk Murdoch may take it private

LONDON - Shares in BSkyB rose 3.5 percent to 589.25 pence in strong volume on Friday with traders citing talk that Rupert Murdoch may take the satellite broadcaster private.

A number of traders said the talk was Murdoch's News Corporation , which owns around 39 percent of the London-listed firm, could offer 735 pence a share for the outstanding holding.

By 9:55 a.m., more than 7 million BSkyB shares had been traded versus the 30-day average daily volume of 4.55 million.

BskyB said it had no comment to make on market talk.
