FTSE tipped to open slightly higher on a day short on news

PRE-OPEN REPORT: Headline shares are tipped to open eight to twelves points higher today, according to financial websites, with British Airways in focus as strike talks rumble on and HSBC in the dock over data thefts.

US & ASIA

In the US last night, the Dow gained 45 points at 10,612, the Nasdaq Composite rose 10 points at 2,368 and the S&P500 was up 5 points at 1,150.

In Asia today, the Nikkei was up 87.91 points at 10,752.86, while the Hang Seng ended the morning off 16.84 points at 21,211.36.

Crude oil traded at $82.20 a barrel on Nymex.

LONDON MARKETS

In a thin corporate diary today, third-quarter results are due from Ocean Power Technologies and final results from Aga Rangemaster Group, Climate Exchange, Independent Media Distribution, Mercator Gold and Parity Group.

Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), Hyundai Motor Company, KT Corp. ADR, Sk Telecom ADS and Throgmorton Trust hold AGMs.
