UK agrochemical development firm Eden Research has entered into a data sharing arrangement with DSM Nutraceuticals.
Under this agreement, Eden has provided DSM with rights to certain data acquired as part of its EU dossier to support the pesticidal registration of Thymol, which is one of the active substances currently in the EU approval process for Annex I inclusion and a component of 3-AEY, Eden's botrytis product.
The agreement allows DSM to use the data to support the registration of its nutraceutical products and is for a consideration of £34,000.
DSM, which is based in Kaiseraugst, Switzerland, is involved in the improvement in performance of animal and human health products.
Eden Research managing director Clive Newitt said: "Whilst this agreement covers markets which are clearly not core activities of Eden, it demonstrates how we are maximising the value of all of the intellectual property that the company has developed.
"This marks further progress with this project and we are continuing actively to seek out further opportunities to maximise the return on the core data packages we have invested in."
The directors of Eden Research believe that effective remedies for agricultural pests and diseases will come increasingly from naturally occurring substances.
The solutions being developed by Eden take advantage of the natural defence mechanisms of plants, in the form of terpene chemistry and join them with a unique encapsulated delivery system enabling the terpenes to be delivered to the plant over a period of time thus increasing the protection.
Trials have proved that the product performs equally well as the currently available chemical based market leader at a very competitive price but with no environmental impact.
