FTSE tipped to open slightly higher on a day bereft of news

PRE-OPEN REPORT: Headline shares are tipped to open eight to twelve points higher today, according to financial websites, on a day bereft of corporate news, with British Airways' strike woes rumbling on.

US & ASIA

In the US last night, the Dow gained 46 points at 10,779, the Nasdaq Composite rose 2 points at 2,391 and the S&P500 was flat at 1,166.

In Asia today, the Nikkei was up 73.76 points at 10,817.79, while the Hang Seng ended the morning off 42.38 points at 21,288.29.

Crude oil traded at $81.93 a barrel on Nymex.

LONDON MARKETS

In a thin corporate diary for the day, final results are due from T. Clarke, Headlam Group, Martin Currie Portfolio Investment Trust and A&D Pharma Holdings.

Trading updates are expected from Johnson Service Group and Property Recycling Group.

Independent Inv Trust, LG Chem, LG Electronics, Samsung C&T Corp and Samsung Electronics host AGMs.
