FTSE tipped to open slightly lower as profit-takers move in

PRE-OPEN REPORT: Headline shares are tipped to open twelve to sixteen points lower, according to financial websites, as profit-takers take the cream off yesterday's strong gains, with Tesco a likely focus on Asia expansion plans.

US & ASIA

In the US last night, the Dow jumped 255 points at 10,269, the Nasdaq Composite added 63 points at 2,177 and the S&P500 gained 31 points at 1,080.

In Asia today, the Nikkei was last up 55 points at 8,982, while the Hang Seng ended the morning ahead 262 points at 20,886.

Crude oil traded at $73.84 a barrel on Nymex.

Gold settled at $1,247 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

In the corporate diary for the day, interim results are due from 32Red, Abbey Protection, DataCash Group, Evraz Group, Restaurant Group, Stadium Group and Total Produce.

Final results are scheduled from Eaga, Go-Ahead Group, Hays and McBride.

DSG International is expected to issue a trading statement.

ACM Shipping, Advanced Computer Software, Carclo, Cohort, Daejan Holdings, Dart Group, Invesco Property Income Trust, Maple Energy and Scott Wilson host their AGMs.
