Kindle faced the first big challenge to its domination of European markets today after, Kobo, a popular ereader abroad in the United States, launched in the UK.
Kobo ereaders feature the same 6" eInk displays as Amazon and come in two models, a touch version, £109, and a regular, £89.
The catalog of books is being distributed using its on eBook store, which runs on WHSmith website and will be promoted in-store.
The deal is the first to challenge the Kindle, since Sony launched its ereader's via Waterstone a year ago - the major feature being that today's ebooks are cross-compatible with Sony's whilst Kindle's remain looked to Amazon's store.
The news was released via Katie Swann, the group's chief executive speaking during results which saw a 4% increase in profits to £93m in the year today.
