Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher Divorce: 10 Celebrity Cougar Couples Who Failed

When Demi Moore announced her divorce from her husband Ashton Kutcher on Thursday, some were surprised but other saw it coming.

The two married six year ago, and the press often gushed about their age difference. When Moore met Kutcher she was 41 and he was 25.

"If somebody would have said, 'OK, here is the prediction: You're going to meet a man 25 years old and he's going to see being with you and having your three kids as a bonus,' I would have said, 'Keep dreaming,'" Moore said in a 2007 interview with Vanity Fair. "I think it caught us both by surprise, and particularly him."

But last year, rumors of infidelity began circulating when a woman known as Brittney Jones accused Kutcher of cheating on Moore with her. Kutcher said Jones was lying and he and Moore held strong throughout the allegations.

In October, rumors began circulating again that Kutcher was unfaithful to Moore. This time, a 23-year-old woman named Sara Leal said she has unprotected sex with Kutcher. Sources have told the media that Kutcher's tryst with Leal happened on his wedding anniversary with Moore.

Despite these new allegations, Moore and Kutcher looked as if they were still holding it together, as the couple went camping and she even visited him on the set of his "Two and a Half Men" TV series.

But in announcing her divorce to Kutcher through The Associated Press on Thursday, Moore didn't say exactly what caused their marriage to end.

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton," Moore's statement to The AP read. "As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation."

Kutcher, 33, responded via Twitter, stating "I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail."

We may never know whether it was the alleged infidelity or their age difference that caused Moore and Kutcher's marriage to crumble.

Their romance blossomed and from it, Halle Berry and Aubry had a daughter, Nahla, three years later. Things took a sour turn last year when the couple split. They were caught up in what was reported as a nasty custody battle over their little angel.

Madonna was 42 when she married Guy Ritchie, who was 10 years younger. They married in 2000 and it ended in 2008. Madonna's representatives told CNBC that the settlement was between $76-$92 million.
