A rare self-portrait by Italian renaissance polymath Leonardo da Vinci, that has only been publicly shown twice, has gone on display in the city of Turin.

The self-portrait, insured for around $67 million, has garnered a lot of attention.

This famous self-portrait is kept in Turin's Royal Library and has earlier been displayed twice in 1929 and 2006. After more than a decade, the portrait has again been showcased at the Reggia di Venaria, a 17th-century former royal residence near Turin.

Titled "Leonardo: The Genius and the Myth," the exhibition showcases 30 other works of art and writings by the Italian artist.

"It's a sort of introduction to the major exhibition that will be held in Amboise (in central France) from May 2, 2019 for the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo," Dawn.com quoted the exhibition's curator, Carlo Pedretti saying.
