2011 was a total action-packed year.  The advent of remarkable products like iPad 2, Galaxy S II and iPhone 4S shook the world in disbelief while a slew of Android devices like Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus did not go unnoticed.

The year 2012 holds a great promise with the fan expectations soaring in anticipation of the delayed release of some gadgets, most notably the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3 from Apple.

iPhone 5 surely tops the list, as the fans get restless with its delayed release. Though Steve Jobs is no more, his inspiring visions should bring about the change in iPhone 5. The reason for the slump in iPhone 4S sales could be attributed to its smaller screen size and vague design concept. Going by Jobs’ plans for revamping the hardware design, iPhone 5 is strongly expected to go metallic with aluminum back and side casing. Besides, a bigger 4-inch screen is also on the cards. Even though iPad 3 does not fall in the same league as the most sought after iPhone 5, it still begs for attention in contrast to the majority lacklustre tablets with poor app support in the market. iPad 3 builds on the strength of its predecessor and is expected to boast a Quad Core processor, superior display resolution and a solid physical profile. Samsung Galaxy S III succeeds the iPhone 5 in the popularity charts and will be riding on the success waves of its predecessor Galaxy S II. Equipped with a 1.8GHz dual-core processor onboard, it will be one of the fastest smartphones to date. Though there is no word on its price yet, it is expected to release in Q2 of 2012. ASUS TF700T is the third installment in the Transformer Prime tablet series. It will be the successor to the famed ASUS Eee Pad tablet.The TF700T will incorporate a higher display resolution, while retaining the same display size, weight and dimensions that made a success formula for its predecessor. Microsoft Xbox 720 is expected to succeed the life cycle of its predecessor – the Xbox 360 with a revamped multimedia interface and harbor a faster processor onboard. Besides, reports abound that it will feature an Octo-Core processor, 3-D, 4K2K, multiTV (DPConnect), live TV and webcam, as well as GPS. (Photo: Xbox 360)

Sony has tamed the portable gaming industry with a whopping 89 million sales of its PlayStation Portable in a fiscal year. The company intends to consolidate on its gains, by unleashing the PlayStation Vita into the market.
The gaming console boasts a rich feature set including a Quad Core processor, touch screen with two analog stick controllers, a revamped hardware design and 4-bit color display with a resolution of 960 × 540 qHD and pixel density of 220 ppi.
The device was first introduced at the E3 2011and made its debut release in Japan on December 17. However, there has been an unexpected delay with the US and UK release, while there is a semblance of hope that it might be released on February 22, according to Bestbuy prediction.

Not so long ago, dual-core processors had set the benchmark standard across smartphones and other portable devices. But, the trend is rapidly changing, as hardware vendors and chipset makers are gradually embracing the Quad-Core concept on their devices.
