The release of a number of visually stunning video game titles in 2011 made for one incredibly action-packed year.

There were games boasting an incredible depth of gameplay, narrative and technology, across all three major platforms - the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox.

Some of the more awesome titles released last year included Activision and Infinity Ward's "Modern Warfare 3", EA DICE's "Battlefield 3", Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" and Ubisoft Montreal's "Assassin's Creed: Revelations".

Other games that ranked among the highlights of the year were Crytek's "Crysis 2" and CD Projekt RED's "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings", as well as Eidos' "Deus Ex: Human Revolution".

Meanwhile, "Dragon Age II", from Bioware, envisioned a modern approach to the classic Baldur's Gate-style dungeon crawling gameplay.

This year, therefore, has much to live up to... the standard has been set and it is time to see what 2012 has to offer.
