French film The Artist big winner at Bafta awards
The Artist, a French film, was a big winner at the 2012 Bafta Awards, receiving gongs for best film, best director and best actor.
Jean Dujardin, who played the lead role in The Artist, won best actor, while veteran American actress Meryl Streep was chosen as best actress, for her portrayal of Dame Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. Martin Scorsese received the Academy Fellowship Award for his outstanding and exceptional contribution to films.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) awards, which honour the highest achievers in film, television and games distributed in the UK, took place over the weekend at the Royal Opera House in Convent Garden. High-profile Hollywood celebrities like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Penelope Cruz were all present for the occasion.
