Galaxy Tab 2 with Ice Cream Sandwich Unleashed

Samsung unveiled Monday the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2, the Korean company's first tablet powered by Android 4.0 - Ice Cream Sandwich.

Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) is the newest successor of the Galaxy Tab, but more powerful than its predecessor. It sports a 7-inch screen with 1,024x600 pixels resolution, 1-GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, a 3-megapixel camera on back, and a front-facing VGA camera for video chat.

The new device is 0.41 inch thick and weighs 0.75 pounds, whereas the iPad 2 is 0.34 inch thick and weighs 1.32 pounds.

The Samsung tablet will have 3G version, which means the tablet can work as a phone too. It can also connect to the Internet via HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) at 21 mbps.

Galaxy Tab 2 is also Samsung's first tablet to boast of the company's AllShare Play service, which allows the users to stream contents to the tablet from other devices, including PC, smartphone and third-party storage service.

The 7-inch tablet will hit the UK market next month for €270 (approx. $350) excluding taxes, for the Wi-Fi version, a statement from Samsung in Sweden said.

The U.S. launch date hasn't been revealed, but Android fans don't expect to wait too long.
