Milan Fashion Week 2012: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

This year's Milan Fashion Week saw Italian designers up their stakes once again and try their hardest to impress the fashion world with their sophisticated designs and trend-setting autumn/winter 2012 collections.

Models were sent down the catwalk in attention-grabbing and awe-inspiring ensembles that could have made any luxury-loving shopper grow weak at the knees.

Impressive images from the shows proved that Milan remains worthy to be crowned a fashion capital.

Gucci kicked off the event on Wednesday by unveiling a women's collection that proved dark glamour can be broody as well as elegant.

The collection created by Frida Giannini, the fashion house's designer-in-chief, featured lots of velvet designs which juxtaposed with some feminine, large prints and jacquard florals.

It was all about opulent designs with a 'baroque romanticism' theme at Dolce & Gabbana's show which featured delicate lace dresses, capes and rich velvets.

Fashion veterans Giorgio Armani and Robert Cavalli closed the show by bringing back Bermuda shorts and Naomi Campbell.

Other designers did their best to live up to the high expectations assigned to them, but while some came up with the goods, others left a lot to be desired.
